ART FOR HUMANS MONSTER COLLECTIVE
Prospectus [BETA]
By AFH Lead Artist Paul McLean
INTRODUCTION
Art for Humans has since 2001 produced collective art projects for exhibition in museums, galleries, alternative art spaces and performance venues. Most recently AFH produced HUM 10+1 (www.artforhumans.com) + ART FOR HUMANS GALLERY CHINATOWN (2007, Los Angeles), an innovative and effective combination of virtual and actual installations, viewed by tens of thousands of people and reviewed by artnet.com. Prior to the formation of AFH, collective Lead Artist Paul McLean collaborated with accomplished and emerging creative professionals in the groundbreaking collectives DDDD and 01. Extensive documentation is available on the AFH websites.
Earlier this summer (2009) McLean announced the upcoming (November) first installment of the multi-disciplinary/-media production “I Love You, Monster,” a project that will culminate with the launching of an American opera of the same name (Timeline: 14 years). Much foundational work for the production has been completed to date, with ongoing publication of content, context and concepts occurring daily at www.artforhumans.com.
Today, Art for Humans is pleased to present the prospectus for the most ambitious AFH project to date, and the establishment of a collective for the execution of the production: AFH Monster Collective. AFH concurrently is publishing the project prospectus (Stage One) and announcing the formation of a political party [The Commonwealth Party] whose platform echoes the concerns that “I Love You, Monster” will represent. Combined with the AFH NAIA (New Art in Action program) proposed by McLean in September 2009 (included as a moderated comment in The National Forum on the NEA and Arts Policy in America), these projects will reshape the applications and mission of Art for Humans for its second decade.
